BIODIESEL

Do you know that the oil used to fry fish, French fries, chicken, etc. can be collected and then used as fuel for cars, trucks, and other vehicles that have diesel engines? All you have to do is to pass the used cooking oil through a fine filter to remove the very small food particles and then add a little lye and and then a little methyl alcohol (methanol) to remove the glycerin from the cooking oil. After an aging period of a day or so, you now have an organic, biodegradable, non-toxic fuel that's called biodiesel. Read the Wikipedia article on biodiesel and then explain in your own words why vegetable oil or biodiesel could be a good alternative to diesel fuel to use in passenger or commercial vehicles.

Hello ladies and gents of UniMAP iecclass2009-10,

Please tell us, your teachers, how much do you like (or dislike) the activities and the materials that we provide for your daily English lessons. Are they too easy or are they too hard? Do you feel that you are becoming better at English communication (listening, speaking, reading, and writing)? (Yes or no?) If your answer is "no" please give us some of your suggestions on how we might make the lessons more interesting and effective for you, our students.

We also would like to know your individual interests and hobbies so that we can include those topics/subjects that you like in the daily lessons and nightly activities. Write down in your comments the things that you like to do in your spare time (for example, playing a musical instrument or shopping for clothes).

Finally, we'd like to know whether most or only a few of you continue to study English at night in your rooms. Do you access the online tutorial websites that we have given you (such as: www.englishmedialab.com, www.esldesk.com, www.esltower.com, www.usingenglish.com, and grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar)?

points to ponder..

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.

To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe..
